November 24, 2010 — Why PAMHO? Actually, PAMHO stands for “Prabhupada Audio Multimedia Hearing Opportunity” here, but your possible contribution would also be usable for offering obeisances to Srila Prabhupada by doing a little service.
“Hearing from the lips of a pure devotee is the most important and easiest task of devotional service.”
As far as possible, Srila Prabhupada’s audio lectures should be presented in the most attractive and most understandable way. With this goal in mind, Pratyatosa Prabhu started an attempt to synchronize all available audio recordings of Srila Prabhupada with the corresponding transcriptions from the VedaBase.
This enables one to perceive these transcendental lectures with two senses, hearing the audio and reading the transcript, in parallel!
Such a modern way of hearing is very efficient for memorizing, and it especially helps to prevent misunderstandings for those for whom English is a 2nd language.
Alright, but where is an actual example of the actual practical magic so
that I might become inspired?:-)
Please see the technology in action here:http://causelessmercy.com/a/?TV=1
The following is quoted from<http://causelessmercy.com/a/>:
*** TV Mode: Repeatedly play all of the below in full-screen shuffle mode.
(Please remember: Press the “H” key for help.)*
The<http://causelessmercy.com/a/> section of the very popular<
http://causelessmercy.com/> website contains all of Srila Prabhupada’s “officially” published audio recordings in the form of MP3 files. It uses HTML5 to synchronize the audio with the corresponding transcriptions from the Vedabase as world standard SRT movie subtitle files. The web page contains everything that is needed to edit the text and to record/fine-tune the timings, including detailed, step-by-step instructions.
Multi-language SRT files are also supported, for example:
But there are even more possibilities for the SRT subtitle files:
In addition to it’s use on this website, it can be used with KMPlayer. With KMPlayer, this website’s plain black background full screen mode can be very easily duplicated using nothing but the SRT file together with the corresponding MP3 file! Here are step-by-step instructions on how to do it:
Also, a black-screen MKV video containing an exact copy of the original MP3 file (no converting or re-encoding) can be created. Then it, together with the corresponding SRT subtitle file, can not only be played using almost any PC media player, but they can also be uploaded to YouTube! For example:
(Again with possible multi-language subtitle option).
These are great opportunities for oneself to be able to fully concentrate on listening to Srila Prabhupada, and even better for preaching for him!
Please join Pratyatosa Prabhu in this huge project of synchronizing all 1843 of Srila Prabhupada’s MP3s. Only a tiny fraction (42 out of 1843) have been completed so far. Therefore, he obviously needs your help so that this project can be completed in months instead of years.
Srila Prabhupada’s vani deserves being distributed in the most efficient, up-to-date method possible, don’t you agree?
If you are interested in helping out with this extremely blissful, highly worthwhile project, please don’t hesitate to contact the Causelessmercy.com Webservant at the email address given at the bottom of the <http://causelessmercy.com/a/> web page. It’s not difficult at all, and no special programs or knowledge is required. All that you need is your web browser. Here are detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to do it:
If every interested devotee would record just one set of subtitle timings, it would be a big help!
