COVIT-19 – World Pandemic or World Karma?
Srila prabhupada: “In this age of Kali the propensity for mercy is almost nil. Consequently there is always fighting and wars between men and nations. Men do not understand that because they unrestrictedly kill so many animals, they also must be slaughtered like animals in big wars. This is very much evident in the Western countries. In the West, slaughterhouses are maintained without restriction, and therefore every fifth or tenth year there is a big war in which countless people are slaughtered even more cruelly than the animals. Sometimes during war, soldiers keep their enemies in concentration camps and kill them in very cruel ways. These are reactions brought about by unrestricted animal-killing in the slaughterhouse and by hunters in the forest. Proud, demoniac persons do not know the laws of nature, or the laws of God. Consequently, they unrestrictedly kill poor animals, not caring for them at all. In the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, animal-killing is completely prohibited.”
Srila Prabhupāda: You are killing innocent cows and animals. Nature will take revenge. Just wait and see. As soon as the time is ripe, the nature will gather all these rascals, and club, slaughter them. Finished. They will fight amongst themselves, Protestant and Catholic, Russian and France, and France and Germany. This is going on. Why? This is the nature’s law. Tit for tat. You have killed. Now you become killed. Amongst yourselves. They are being sent to the slaughterhouse. And here, you’ll create slaughterhouse, “Dum! dum!” and killed, be killed. Therefore in Europe, so many wars. Every ten years, fifteen years, there is a big war and wholesale slaughter of the whole human kind. And these rascals, they do not see it. The reaction must be there. They are sending animals to the slaughterhouse, and now they’ll create their own slaughterhouse.
People do not know how nature is working. If you kill, you must be killed. If you kill the cow, who is your mother, then in some future lifetime your mother will kill you. Yes. The mother becomes the child, and the child becomes the mother. You’ll make a slaughterhouse at home. You’ll kill your own child—abortion. This is nature’s law. Who are these children being killed? They are these meat-eaters. They enjoyed themselves when so many animals were killed, and now they’re being killed by their mothers. Tit for tat. ‘You have killed. Now you kill yourselves.’
The karma of meat-eating
Heavy consumption of red meat increases the incidence of cancer and artery narrowing that leads to heart attack and stroke. Besides the role of cholesterol in the narrowing of arteries, the bacteria in our gut is known to digest a nutrient called L-carnitine in meat and turn it into an arterial narrowing plaque.
In a recent Singapore study, Professor Koh Woon Puay of Duke-NUS Medical School found out that higher intake of red meat and poultry is associated with significantly increased risk of developing diabetes.
Research has also shown that our immune system attacks a sugar in red meat (Neu5Gc), causing a high level of inflammation that can eventually cause cancer. The discovery prompted Ajit Varki, the lead author of the Neu5Gc study of University of California to say, “Red meat is great, if you want to live to 45!”
If the governments helped countries transition to a plantbased diet then the likelihood of more pandemics are highly unlikely . We need to start thinking about preventing diseases more seriously
Coronavirus May Be Related to Meat-Eating, Sources Warn
Scientists believe contact with live animals or slaughtered animals’ flesh may be the cause of the disease.
The virus, labelled 2019-nCoV, is similar to other infamous coronaviruses, like severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). All three spread from animals to humans, and further research from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that more than 75% of emerging diseases originate in animals. Filthy factory farms, abattoirs, and meat markets threaten the health of every human being on the planet by providing a breeding ground for deadly diseases like the new coronavirus, SARS, bird flu, and more.
Experts theorise that the outbreak might have originated in a market in Wuhan, China, where humans have direct contact with live animals and animal flesh.
We can’t expect to continue living on Earth as we know it if we continue to eat animals. The best thing you can do for your own health and the world we live in is to become vegetarians right now. (More here)
Animal rights organisation PETA has come under fire for pointing out a link between coronavirus and meat consumption. PETA has now seized on the link between the illness and animals, noting that coronavirus is an anagram of carnivorous – ‘carnivorous’ means to feed on animals — that leads to coronavirus. (More here)
Eating animals has huge consequences for human health.
You’ve likely already heard by now that a diet that’s high in animal products can increase a person’s risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer, but there are many more possible health problems associated with our society’s flesh fetish.
Eating meat isn’t just killing animals—it’s also threatening human health.
For years now, scientists have warned that filthy farms crammed full of sick animals are breeding grounds for new, antibiotic-resistant “superbugs.” Some studies claim that by 2050, more people will be dying from antibiotic-resistant diseases than from cancer.
The United Nations found that 70% of new human diseases originated in animals and that many of those were directly linked to animals used for food. The World Health Organization states that processed meat causes cancer. Meanwhile, a vegan diet reduces the risk of many chronic degenerative diseases and conditions, including heart disease, cancer, obesity, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes.
Deadly viruses, devastating forest fires, accelerating climate change—eating animals has apocalyptic consequences.
We cannot expect to continue living on planet Earth if we continue to eat animals. It’s really that simple. The easiest thing that you can do for your own health and the world we live in is to go vegan right now and persuade everyone you know to do the same. (More here)
As the clock ticks on, mankind should evolve to be more civilised and humane.
Hopefully, as Leonardo Da Vinci once said, “The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as now they look upon the murder of men”.
Animals are in many ways like men. They have skin, flesh, bones and brain like what we have. Thus, they can feel the intense agony of pain and misery, and react with extreme anger and anxiety. Their agony and desperation in the hands of men are beyond description. Yet, many men who are supposedly the most intelligent and humane species on earth are acting in ways that are most brutal and cruel.
Often I am tempted to ask, “Are we really human if we aren’t humane? Are we really mankind when we are not kind to animals?” Perhaps it is more fitting to call ourselves Homo sapiens if we have not really graduated to the level of human beings or mankind. Sadly, only a small subset of the human race are showing compassion and benevolence towards animals. Surely, from the animals’ perspective, we are the collective killers of billions of sentient lives every year. Thus, we can’t deny that we are the most destructive ‘monsters’ on earth, since time immemorial.
Animals may not be empowered to fight back. Nonetheless, the natural law of equality and fairness shall always operate its way. We have been witnessing so many people killing animals by smashing, boiling, burning them or slicing their neck alive, often in the name of God. Such practices are so rampant especially in the dog meat trade as we often witness in the videos presented in social media.
Many of us may say, “Oh, they did it. I have no hands in it.” Yet, we still cannot absolve ourselves totally from the fact that supply is created by demand. Thus, the mouth that eats the meat has a hand in it.
Oh, my gosh, we, the meat-eaters are all responsible. Together, we created that collective karma. Thus, we have to face it. In fact, we are already reaping the result of what we sow. We may not know that their meat and organs that we eat are slowly disrupting our systems from within. Perhaps we should ask ourselves, “What are the greatest killers of mankind?” The answer may give us some insight into the karma of meat-eating.

Slaughterhouse Civilisation and World Karma
“You are maintaining so many slaughterhouse, and when it will be mature, there will be war, the wholesale murder. Finished. One atom bomb—finished. You’ll have to suffer. Don’t think that ‘Innocent animals, they cannot protest. Let us kill and eat.’ No. You’ll be also punished. Wait for accumulation of your sinful activities, and there will be war, and the America will drop on Russia atom bomb, and Russia will be finished. Both will be finished. Go on now enjoying. It takes time. Just like even if you infect some disease, it takes time. Not that immediately you infect, and immediately the disease is there.” (Srila Prabhupada Lecture, Honolulu, May 31, 1976)
“Every ten or fifteen years there is a big war—a wholesale slaughterhouse for humankind. But these rascals—they do not see it, that by the law of karma, every action must have its reaction. You are killing innocent cows and other animals—nature will take revenge. Just wait. As soon as the time is right, nature will gather all these rascals and slaughter them. Finished. They’ll fight amongst themselves—Protestants and Catholics, Russia and America, this one and that one. It is going on. Why? That is nature’s law. Tit for tat. ‘You have killed. Now you kill yourselves.’ ” (Srila Prabhupada Conversation, Paris, June 11, 1974)
“Animal killing is very prominent amongst demoniac people. Such people are considered the enemies of the world because ultimately they will invent or create something which will bring destruction to all. Indirectly, this verse anticipates the invention of nuclear weapons, of which the whole world is today very proud. At any moment war may take place, and these atomic weapons may create havoc. Such things are created solely for the destruction of the world, and this is indicated here. Due to godlessness, such weapons are invented in human society; they are not meant for the peace and prosperity of the world.” (Bhagavad-gītā As It Is 16.9, Purport)
“As soon as there is atomic bomb, everything, all civilization on the surface of the globe will be finished. So people may not like it. It may be very unpalatable, but the fact is like that. Satyaṁ brūyāt priyaṁ brūyāt ma brūyāt satyam abrūyāt. It is social convention that if you want to speak truth, you speak truth very palatable, flattering. Don’t speak unpalatable truth. But we are not meant for that purpose, social convention. We are preacher, we are servant of God. We must speak the real truth. You may like it or may not like it, that a godless civilization cannot be happy in any stage. That is a fact. Therefore we have started this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement to awaken this godless civilization, that you try to love God.” (Srila Prabhupada Lecture, Seattle, October 20, 1968)

Men do not understand that because they unrestrictedly kill so many animals, they also must be slaughtered like animals in big wars. This is very much evident in the Western countries. As long as human society continues to allow cows to be regularly
killed in slaughterhouses, there cannot be any question
of peace and prosperity, there will be wars.

rājovāca
sabhyāḥ śṛṇuta bhadraṁ vaḥ

satsu jijñāsubhir dharmam
āvedyaṁ sva-manīṣitam
SYNONYMS
rājā uvāca—the King began to speak; sabhyāḥ—addressing the ladies and gentlemen; śṛṇuta—kindly hear; bhadram—good fortune; vaḥ—your; sādhavaḥ—all great souls; ye—who; iha—here; āgatāḥ—present; satsu—unto the noble men; jijñāsubhiḥ—one who is inquisitive; dharmam—religious principles; āvedyam—must be presented; sva-manīṣitam—concluded by someone.
TRANSLATION
King Pṛthu said: O gentle members of the assembly, may all good fortune be upon you! May all of you great souls who have come to attend this meeting kindly hear my prayer attentively. A person who is actually inquisitive must present his decision before an assembly of noble souls.
PURPORT
In this verse the word sādhavaḥ (“all great souls”) is very significant. When a person is very great and famous, many unscrupulous persons become his enemies, for envy is the nature of materialists. In any meeting there are different classes of men, and it is to be supposed, therefore, that because Pṛthu Mahārāja was very great, he must have had several enemies present in the assembly, although they could not express themselves. Mahārāja Pṛthu, however, was concerned with persons who were gentle, and therefore he first addressed all the honest persons, not caring for the envious. He did not, however, present himself as a royal authority empowered to command everyone, for he wanted to present his statement in humble submission before the assembly of great sages and saintly persons. As a great king of the entire world, he could have given them orders, but he was so humble, meek and honest that he presented his statement for approval in order to clarify his mature decision. Everyone within this material world is conditioned by the modes of material nature and therefore has four defects. But although Pṛthu Mahārāja was above all these, still, like an ordinary conditioned soul, he presented his statements to the great souls, sages and saintly persons present there.

TRANSLATION
King Pṛthu continued: By the grace of the Supreme Lord I have been appointed the king of this planet, and I carry the scepter to rule the citizens, protect them from all danger and give them employment according to their respective positions in the social order established by Vedic injunction.
PURPORT
A king is supposed to be appointed by the Supreme Personality of Godhead to look after the interests of his particular planet. On every planet there is a predominating person, just as we now see that in every country there is a president. If one is president or king, it should be understood that this opportunity has been given to him by the Supreme Lord. According to the Vedic system, the king is considered a representative of Godhead and is offered respects by the citizens as God in the human form of life. Actually, according to Vedic information, the Supreme Lord maintains all living entities, and especially human beings, to elevate them to the highest perfection. After many, many births in lower species, when a living entity evolves to the human form of life and in particular to the civilized human form of life, his society must be divided into four gradations, as ordered by the Supreme Personality of Godhead in Bhagavad-gītā (cātur-varṇyaṁ mayā sṛṣṭam, etc. [Bg. 4.13]). The four social orders—the brāhmaṇas, kṣatriyas, vaiśyas and śūdras—are natural divisions of human society, and as declared by Pṛthu Mahārāja, every man in his respective social order must have proper employment for his livelihood. It is the duty of the king or the government to insure that the people observe the social order and that they are also employed in their respective occupational duties. In modern times, since the protection of the government or the king has been withdrawn, social order has practically collapsed. No one knows who is a brāhmaṇa, who is a kṣatriya, who is a vaiśya or who is a śūdra, and people claim to belong to a particular social order by birthright only. It is the duty of the government to reestablish social order in terms of occupational duties and the modes of material nature, for that will make the entire world population actually civilized. If it does not observe the institutional functions of the four social orders, human society is no better than animal society in which there is never tranquillity, peace and prosperity but only chaos and confusion. Mahārāja Pṛthu, as an ideal king, strictly observed the maintenance of the Vedic social order.
Prajāyate iti prajā. The word prajā refers to one who takes birth. Therefore Pṛthu Mahārāja guaranteed protection for prajānām—all living entities who took birth in his kingdom. Prajā refers not only to human beings but also to animals, trees and every other living entity. It is the duty of the king to give all living entities protection and food. The fools and rascals of modern society have no knowledge of the extent of the responsibility of the government. Animals are also citizens of the land in which they happen to be born, and they also have the right to continue their existence at the cost of the Supreme Lord. The disturbance of the animal population by wholesale slaughter produces a catastrophic future reaction for the butcher, his land and his government.
