Pesticides may kill off water insects and other small aquatic life by as much as 42 percent, according to an analysis of German, French and Australian rivers and streams, published on Monday.
The study is the first to compare regional biodiversity in polluted versus less polluted water, said scientists at the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres. It was published in the US journal the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Freshwater invertebrates and aquatic insects were 42 percent less common in strongly contaminated areas in Europe compared to less polluted areas; in Australia, a difference of 27 percent was found across regions.
The analysis included measurements of insecticides and fungicides, which are used often in agriculture and are typically well-studied and heavily regulated.

The Subtleties of Science | Cornelius Hunter (Darwin’s God)
In 1846 astronomers in Europe discovered the planet Neptune. It wasn’t the first time Neptune had been seen, but it was the first time the object was identified as a planet.
And how did the astronomers know where to look, and know that the object was Neptune? Because the position of Neptune had been computed and predicted. So they looked, and sure enough, there was Neptune. In fact similar predictions had been made independently by different scientists. The predictions were based on observations indicating that the next closest planet, Uranus, did not quite follow its expected orbit. Was Newtonian physics wrong? Perhaps Newton’s Law of Gravity broke down at longer distances. Or perhaps there was a perturbing force from another planet. It was the latter and Newtonian physics survived a strong test.

Sometimes people paint a picture of God as a very old man
17. June 2013 By Prabhupada News Leave a Comment

Srila Prabhupada, Mayapur, India, March 27, 1975: [...] In many Vedic scriptures Krishna is described as the puranah purusah, the oldest person. Puranah purusam nava-yauvanam ca: “Although He is the oldest of all, still He is always a fresh youth.”
How it this possible? People are trying to understand God. Sometimes they paint a picture of God as a very old man. “Because He is the original person, by this time He must have become very old.” That is imagination. That old man is not actually the form of the Lord. The form of the Lord is described in the Brahma-samhita and other Vedic scriptures.
advaitam acyutam anadim ananta-rupam
adyam purana-purusam nava-yauvanam ca
vedesu durlabham adurlabham atma-bhaktau
govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami
“I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who is inaccessible to the Vedas, but obtainable by pure unalloyed devotion of the soul, who is without a second, who is not subject to decay, is without a beginning, whose form is endless, who is the beginning, and the eternal purusa; yet He is a person possessing the beauty of blooming youth.” [BS5.33]

My Dear Revatinandana,
Please accept my blessings. I am in due receipt of your letter dated 6th June, 1970, along with a check for $100, and thank you very much.
Regarding your question whether you may go to Rathayatra festival, yes, you may go because in your present temple the Deities are not regularly installed. So you can close the temple for a few days keeping in front of the Deities some dried fruits and a tumbler of water. When the Deity is installed it is called niyama seva. That means the routine seva prescribed after installation you cannot stop.
But Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu is very kind to the fallen souls of the Kali Yuga and He is satisfied with chanting of Hare Krsna mantra. And for chanting the Hare Krsna mantra there is no hard and fast rules and regulations, so if you are absent for chanting Hare Krsna mantra somewhere else, it is as good as to chant the Hare Krsna mantra in the temple. Your chanting may not be stopped; it does not matter where you chant.

KALIYA SERPENT
Overlooking the ocean from the dharmashalla (main guest building), one is able to watch the constant fluctuation and interaction of the elements of nature: day, night, sky, clouds, sunlight, rain, wind, mist, rainbows, waves, sea-haze, and the distant islands of Namena, Taveuni, Koro, and Kumbalau peninsula. It is always beautiful, spectacular actually, and we often remember the local legend of a giant many-headed snake that resides in the ocean bay that lies before us, sheltered by the barrier reef some 8 kilometers out. It is also supposedly resident in mountain caves near Rakiraki. The serpent is called Dengey by the locals, and in 1975 Srila Prabhupada told Vasudeva and Bhagavati Prabhus that he must be Kaliya, banished by Lord Krishna from the Yamuna, coming to Ramanik Island , which is Fiji. Inquiring if there were any indigenous animals in Fiji (there are none very significant other than birds), Prabhupada saw their absence as evidence of Kaliya’s presence. Kaliya Nag is a great devotee of Krishna- would he someday be seen by Prabhupada’s followers here, perhaps while swimming on the shore, or watching from the dharmashalla veranda? Will he be attracted by the Krishna nama kirtans that can be heard far out on the quiet waters of Yanawai Bay ? (see photo)

Greenpeace Canada — The tar sands of Northern Alberta, Canada – also called oil sands – are one of the largest remaining deposits of oil in the world. Developing the tar sands has created the biggest industrial development project, the biggest capital investment project, and the biggest energy project in the world. It has also created a literal hell on earth.
Areas of wilderness the size of small countries are chewed up and replaced by a landscape of toxic lakes, open pit mines, refineries, and pipe lines. The tar sands are what unrestrained fossil fuel use and unchecked greenhouse gas emissions look like. They are pushing us towards runaway climate change.
In September and October 2009 Greenpeace activists took action in the tar sands – see complete live streamed footage on the Ustream channel & more video here.

Why I Eat Butter | Small Footprint Family
16. June 2013 By Prabhupada News Leave a Comment
When Krishna and Balarama are caught stealing the yogurt and butter, They say, ‘Why do you charge Us with stealing? Do you think that butter and yogurt are in scarcity in Our house?’
Small Footprint Family: [...] You can’t really make butter from goats milk because the cream doesn’t readily separate out like it does with cows milk. The fat molecules are very small in goat’s milk (and sheep’s milk) so it is naturally homogenized. This makes it more digestible, but not good for butter, whey or any other separative process.
Let’s be sure to distinguish between industrial milk and the milk from a small family farm or someone’s backyard cow or goat, and not make inaccurate blanket statements. No one on this page would ever recommend industrial CAFO milk, which is awful, unhealthy stuff on every level.
It should also be noted that many mammals drink other mammals milk. For instance, pigs are notorious for breaking into the dairy barn just to drink from the cows. Some animals also sometimes nurse orphan animals of other species. Primates love cow’s milk. Raccoons prefer it when dumpster diving/scrounging around in cities.

That’s about 800 million, or about 8 percent, more than the previous projection of 10.1 billion, issued in 2011.
The projected rise is mostly due to fertility in Africa, where the U.N. had expected birth rates to decline more quickly than they have.

video: The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) – The Big Bang Experiment
An intelligent design advocate is publishing a book this month that uses the Cambrian Explosion as evidence against Darwinism and for I.D. Two major evolutionary paleontologists have also published a book about the issue.
Stephen Meyer’s new book, Darwin’s Doubt, is officially released next week. Chapter 4 will tell about the uproar caused at the
University of Oklahoma in 2009 when Meyer and Wells scheduled a panel discussion after a showing of Illustra’s film Darwin’s Dilemma about the Cambrian fossil record. Darwinists at the university attempted a pre-emptive strike by issuing announcements that the event was religiously motivated. In the Q&A, though, the university’s professors and museum curators could not produce any unambiguous fossil as a credible ancestor to any of the Cambrian animals. Meyer’s book, updated with the latest findings since then, examines all the putative fossil ancestors and evolutionary exlanations for the Cambrian explosion, and assesses the issue’s relevance to the Darwin-ID debate.

Jun 12, 2013 — DALLAS, TEXAS (SUN) —
The Sun Editors are making contradictory statements in their recent article, “Bhaktivedanta Archives: Pandering to the Ritviks“. On one hand (and over the years) the Sun advocates for “Freedom of Press” and states that the Ramesvara Interview should have been published a long time ago – a few years after it took place. The article states:
“And whose side is the Bhaktivedanta Archives taking in all this? Well, the proof is in the pudding. Here we have an extremely important document that should never have been kept from the devotees for even a few years, let alone 34 years. And what inspired the Archives to finally release it? Money, apparently. The Ritviks have infused the Archives with much needed capital, and in exchange, they clearly have put themselves in a position to leverage that influence.”
