Germany rakes in record tax income | TheLocal.de

“A government exacts various taxes from the citizens which the citizens are able to pay by their different material activities: agriculture, trade and industry; thus the government can also exact taxes in the form of income tax and sales tax. This is compared to the sun drawing water from the earth. When there is again need of water on the surface of the globe, the same sunshine converts the water into clouds and distributes it all over the globe. Similarly, the taxes collected by the government must be distributed to the people again, as educational work, public work, sanitary work, etc. This is very essential for a good government.”

Germany rakes in record tax income | TheLocal.de
Published: 27 Jan 12 15:23 CET — December saw the biggest tax haul in German history, it was reported Friday – but the recent revenue boom is slowing down.
Germany’s long resilience to the eurozone economic crisis appears to be wearing down, even though the Finance Ministry reported a record tax income of €71 billion (USD 94 billion) in December 2011 – a 4.1 percent increase on the same month the year before.

Here Comes The Sun; the lost solo guitar

Lucas Bandeira — In this video we see Sir George Martin, Giles Martin (his son), and Dhani Harrison listening to the mix of “Here Comes The Sun”.

Suddenly Dhani opens the channel with the “lost solo guitar”. And now, with the master track in the background, you can hear how it sounds in music.

“That was George Harrison. A true genius.”

Letter to: Govinda

Los Angeles
26 January, 1969
“So far as my taking botheration in coming to your country, I must take this so-called botheration for Krishna. But what botheration I have taken? You know that the Goswamis were ministers in the government’s service and they left their posts for going to Vrindaban and living there just like paupers.

Nitai-Pada-Kamala | Song by Srila Narottama das Thakura (1466-1572)

Print Friendly

Iskcon Bangalore Group 26 Jan 2012 — The whole world is suffering under the blazing fire of material existence. Therefore, if one takes the shelter of the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda. So we should relish this instruction of Narottama dasa Thakura that in order to get relief from the pangs of blazing fire of this material existence, one should take shelter of the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda because it is as cooling as the moon rays combined together of millions of moons. That means one will immediately find peaceful atmosphere. Just like a man works whole day and if he comes under the moonshine he feels relief.

In Whose Arms Is Prabhavishnu Now?

Prabhupadavision.com | Angry Mother – Australia: Well sure my heart goes out to all those god-brothers and -sisters of mine who still hold a candle for Prabhavishnu but I will not think good of him ever again. For years I battled on washing dishes, cleaning nappies and cooking for my husband as he worked his butt off and gave so much of it to Prabhavishnu. How much did we do for him over the years I cannot imagine! How much we went without because guru Maharaja needed money for his service in Katmandu or to build his house in Vṛndāvan or his preaching in Russia when we needed money for our family! How many times did I buy secondhand stuff for us all because gurudev needed more money?

We heard that he is in Thailand somewhere with his girlfriend? What is that all about? His girlfriend who he has yet to drop the big question? Who is this woman and how did they meet? How did a sannyasi guru meet a woman, a shop keeper? Did he meet her at a pub or in her shop? Why does it matter? Well it matters to us because he was our guru, a pure devotee who Krishna had sent to us to take us back home to Godhead.

Now he is pillow talking with some woman who we don’t know whether she is a devotee or not? It matters because I know some of my godsisters who refuse to accept that he is less than a pure devotee and they still do puja to him and offer bhog to him, of course it matters! I am sure she is not a devotee so how is this possible I want to understand. Please tell me my dear god sisters how can you still think he is a pure devotee?

Change, Chance, and Necessity

Print Friendly

Dr. Singh, Los Angeles, May 13, 1973: Scientists and other people say that everything in the universe is happening by chance.

Srila Prabhupada: So, are they also writing books on the subject by chance?

Karandhara: The books are also written by chance, they say.

Srila Prabhupada: So, what is their credit? By chance, anything can be written.

Dr. Singh: The French scientist Dr. J. Monod got the Nobel Prize in 1965. He says that everything started by chance — that by chance certain chemicals combined and formed the basic molecules.

Srila Prabhupada: But where did the chemicals come from?

Dr. Singh: According to him, they were created simply by chance, and when the necessity arose, molecules of the chemicals reoriented themselves.

What is ISKCON? Who is a member of ISKCON?

Print Friendly

By Urmila Dasi (Dr. Edith Best, Professor of ISKCON History and The Sociology of ISKCON at Bhaktivedanta College, Durbuy, Belgium; Associate Editor of Back to Godhead magazine; member of the Sastric Advisory Council to the GBC)

Understanding ISKCON through the lens of social development and history

A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada established ISKCON when it consisted of one rented storefront in New York City. He wrote purposes for his new society—to teach spiritual knowledge, consciousness of our existence as a soul part of the Supreme Godhead Krishna, and a simpler natural way of life.

To accomplish these ends, Prabhupada wanted to bring the members closer together, create holy places, engage in sankirtana (in the method and mood of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu), and distribute publications.

Largest star ever discovered, compared to our Sun | Discovery Channel

video: Discovery Channel shows Earth, compared to the Sun, and then to a few other massive stars in our own Milky Way..

Prabhupada, Melbourne, May 21, 1975 — Just like the sun globe, it is… There are other globes also. They are bigger than sun. Anyway, the sun is very big. So God has created this big globe, means fourteen hundred thousand times bigger than this earth—or even this earth—floating in the air. You can float a big 747 airplane also floating in the air, but you cannot make a globe like sun and floating in the air. That is the difference between you and God. Full Lecture

Appearance day of Lord Varahadeva | Lecture by Srila Prabhupada

Iskcon Bangalore Group Jan 26 2012– Lecture by Srila Prabhupada delivered on the auspicious Appearance Day of
Lord Varaha in Bhuvanesvara on January 31, 1977…

“Today, Varaha-dvadasi, appearance of Krishna’s taking the incarnation of Varaha, boar… Kesava dhrta-sukara-rupa jaya jagadisa hare.

ramadi-murtisu kala-niyamena tisthan
nanavataram akarod bhuvanesu kintu
krsnah svayam samabhavat paramah puman yo
govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami

[Bs. 5.39]
Krishna, Govinda, adi-purusa, the original person, He is taking various forms. Ramadi-murtisu specially. Three Rama: Parasurama, Balarama, and Dasarathi Rama. So this Rama means enjoyment. So Krishna’s enjoyment… It does not mean, Krishna has appeared as the boar; it does not mean He is suffering. Everything is ananda-cinmaya-rasa-pratibhavitabhis [Bs. 5.37].”

One’s selfishness must be aimed at the point of going back to Godhead

The Problem with the World—Selfishness
by Karnamrita Das
January 24, 2012 at 3:10am

While there are many ways to frame, or lead into, speaking about the root cause of  the problems of the world, or of the country I live in, looking more closely at the concept of selfishness will be helpful. I have often thought that fanaticism is the real enemy of the world, since people’s inability to consider other viewpoints is at the root of most world’s or local conflicts.

To me, fanaticism is a type of selfishness, or the result of a very narrow vision. Both come from bodily identification. My guru, Shrila Prabhupada spoke of selfishness, and extended selfishness. We are all eternal souls, yet we have the power to invest ourselves into matter. So although in the ultimate sense, or spiritually speaking, we have nothing to do with matter, due to false ego, we (the soul or consciousness) become duped or fooled by the illusion of the material world (maya), to think we are a particular body and mind, separate from God, others, and Nature.

Guru-tattva – The Fog is Clearing | URVASHI PATEL

video: FOLK Bangalore

BY: URVASHI PATEL

Jan 24, 2012 — USA (SUN) — Many wonderful contributions have been made on the recent topic of guru, initiation, diksa, siksa etc. I would like to summarise what has been said and what I have understood so far and elaborate a bit on what has been and is the common feeling amongst devotees, because senior devotees are discussing these topics ever so urgently. They are very concerned about what has become of Srila Prabhupada’s ISKCON in such a short time since he physically left this world.

They are increasingly concerned, knowing very well that in the next 10 years or so many of us will not be any longer present in our physical bodies. Time is running out to turn around the ISKCON ship for the benefit of humanity at large. The dangers to become the Hare Krishna religion or another Hindu religion based on religiosity and not spirituality are too great to ignore.

Lord Nityananda Prabhu’s Appearance Day | 5 February 2012

Print Friendly

Prabhupada, Los Angeles, January 31, 1969: [...] Nitya means eternal. Ananda means pleasure. Material pleasure is not eternal. That is the distinction. Therefore those who are intelligent, they are not interested with this flickering pleasure of material world. Every one of us, as living entity, we are searching after pleasure. But the pleasure which we are seeking, that is flickering, temporary. That is not pleasure. Real pleasure is nityananda, eternal pleasure. So anyone who has no contact with Nityananda, it is to be understood that his life is spoiled.

Philosophy Discussions on Immanuel Kant (1724 -1804) | Srila Prabhupada

Print Friendly

Krishna says, I have spoken to sun-god, forty millions of years ago.

Syamasundara: [...] So Immanuel Kant says that man tends to create ideas about the universe which transcend the bounds of experience, and this is what he calls the third stage, or the transcendental dialectic.

Kant says these ideas which transcend the bounds of experience are the realm of pure reason. He calls it pure reason, or transcendental reason. And these are not fictions, but these spring from the very nature of reason itself, these transcendental ideas.

Prabhupada: Yes. That I already explained: transcendental. We are seeking eternity. I find myself as a soul; I am eternal; so I must seek an eternal world. This is not my place. I am eternal. The same example: just like fish taken from the water, he is not finding comfortable life.

So when the fish is thrown in the water, then it is comfortable. Similarly, I am spirit soul. I am not feeling comfortable with this material body. Therefore the right conclusion is how to go to the spiritual world or attain a spiritual body.
