Vrindavan, Apr. 5 (VT): In a statement to Vrindavan Today, Abhiram Das denied knowing of any plans to develop the Bhaktivedanta Goshala. He said he had been asked by the temple president for ideas about the situation there and had made a number of recommendations, but none of them included construction or development of any sort.
He regretted that rumors of this sort were being spread without any attempt to contact the accused parties or to verify the facts of the case.
Abhiram stated that the 380 cows currently on the goshala are in a miserable condition, being squeezed onto just 12 acres. “They have no place to even walk around during the day. Because of the crowding, they are not only unhappy, but their health is being affected. They are getting mastitis more often than they should.”
He stated that he and many other ISKCON devotees have been encouraging the temple to buy extra land at some distance from the town, where prices are affordable. They will need in excess of 100 acres if they want the majority of non-milking cows to enjoy a natural life. “Some people are already looking for suitable land,” he said.
Asked about other use of the goshala property, Abhiram said that he has encouraged the cowmen there to plant trees and grass so that the cows can graze and enjoy the shaded areas. “Even so,” he added, “the ideal number of animals for this land is about 45 only.”
The new bricks that were reported to be present on the land are apparently to be used for a govara tank.
In all, Abhiram denied the rumors that were being spread in the article that appeared on the Sampradaya Sun under the name of Ram Kishor Das. He said that he has no authority himself to make decisions on the Vrindavan management board and has no interest in anything other than purifying his heart in sankirtan.
Concerned devotee Bhakta Das said, “We are happy to hear Abhiram Prabhu clarify the situation and sincerely hope that his desire to expand the service to the cows is successful. Whatever the case, we would hate to see yet more construction on those bits of land that still seem to really recreate the true spirit of Vrindavan.”
Is there still a football field for the gurukula on the cow’s land.? sorry to hear after all these years and so much work by devotees the miserable condition persists. Buy land for Krishnas cows NOW. Devotees are buying expensive flats for themselves in posh colonies in Vrindaban………,
