The religious Tome that offers me ultimate Solace is the Bhagavad Gita - Anita Nair

Books make up my world. They are my best pals.

Pedalling the pen is my passion as well as profession. For me, reading and writing are but two different sides of the same coin.

The matter in black and white always lends me an outlet to think, introspect and imagine things that are transcendental and beyond the bounds of this tangible world.

The religious tome that offers me ultimate solace is the Bhagavad Gita. It is more than a holy scripture on Hinduism. The constituent proverbial tenets are derived from the philosophical doctrines chanted out by Lord Krishna to the third Pandava Arjun on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, prior to the war waged between the Kauravas and Pandav brothers in the great mythological epic of The Mahabharata.

When I feel depressed, I make sure to reach out for this sacred text. It is high on moral values, spiritual in essence and conveys significant messages about human conduct, duties and principles.

My heart felt heavy when I read Fugitive Pieces by Canadian poet Anne Michaels. The book vividly delves into themes like trauma, grief, loss, memory and discovery, both at personal and scientific levels. It moistened my eyes while reading the moving story of a Jewish kid who survived the horrors of Nazis in Poland, thereby escaping from their clutches, only to be rescued by a Greek geologist named Athos Roussos.

This apart, I enjoy today’s series of campus novels. From the lot, Amitabha Bagchi’s Above Average would be my favourite. It’s funny, hilarious and tight.
