ISK'CON BBT Jayadvaita & Gopal- Krsna banned Srila Prabhupada's original Gita

ISK’CON BBT Jayadvaita & Gopal-Krsna banned Srila Prabhupada’s Original Gita

Hare Krsna to all. Pranams.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada AND
to all those who favorably serve him !!

Below are two letters
1. this is a letter I just received from Jitarati who just sold out of the entire 100,000 of his newly published pocked Bhagavad Gitas.
2 The second article if from Madhudvisa and how he shows all the massive changes that Jayadvaita has done to Prabhupadas original Macmillan Bhagavad gita.

Conclusion–Despite what the so called leaders in iskcon do or say, the general mass of devotees WANT, without a doubt Prabhupadas original books !!!! And their Money does their talking !!

Hare Krsna

Hare Krishna Damaghosa Prabhu,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Well they have banned it, even though all the ISKCON distributors want it.
It is one of the best selling books ever and has created a whole new army of distributors big and small outside of ISKCON.
KBI and BBT have asked me to stand down. Let’s see what I do.
Trying to work with BBT Mumbai but what is painfully true and one of the most amazing things in the world is that JAS is in control of everyone in BBT and ISKCON.
The poisonous effect of his books seems to have cast a spell on all those who print, distribute and read his Bhagavad Gita as it is not.

Srila Prabhupada’s Bhagavad-gita 4.38, original 1972 edition:

Skærmbillede 2013-10-24 kl. 14.27.12

Jayadvaita Swami’s version (BBT International, 1983 edition):

Skærmbillede 2013-10-24 kl. 14.28.19

The sentence,

“And one who has achieved this enjoys the self within himself in due course of time.”

is changed to:

“And one who has become accomplished in the practice of devotional service enjoys this knowledge within himself in due course of time.”

This change is both needless and alters the meaning.

It is NEEDLESS because Prabhupada has not asked for it.

It alters the meaning, as the words “enjoys the self” is erased and replaced with “enjoys this knowledge”.

And the words “has achieved this” are substituted with “has become accomplished in the practise of devotional service”.

Furthermore the words “are culminated” in the end of the purport are NEEDLESSLY changed to “culminate”.

So there are NEEDLESS changes BOTH in the translation and in the purport.

Usually all this is explained away with something from the “original manuscript”. But on BBT International’s website we find no information about this change.

The “original manuscript” sounds like this:

Skærmbillede 2013-10-24 kl. 11.27.55

So AGAIN the “original manuscript” is seen to be closer to the 1972 original Bhagavad-gita than Jayadvaita Maharaj’s version.

On top of that, in the word-for-word translation the word “na – never” is changed to “na – nothing” and “svayam-itself” is changed to “svayam-himself”. Prabhupada personally did ALL the type-writing for the first six chapters of the so called “original manuscript”. In the “original manuscript” Prabhupada’s translation of “na” was “never” (Na-never) and his translation of “svayam” was “itself” (svayam-itself):

Skærmbillede 2013-10-24 kl. 14.13.44

So BBT International have CHANGED PRABHUPADA’S SANSKRIT TRANSLATION as it was PERSONALLY WRITTEN BY HIM, on his type writer. Prabhupada was very concerned with better knowing disciples that had become “learned” in sanskrit:

“…a little learning is dangerous, especially for the Westerners. I am practically seeing that as soon as they begin to learn a little Sanskrit immediately they feel that they have become more than their guru and then the policy is kill guru and be killed himself.” (from a letter to Dixit das on 18 Sep 1976)

Prabhupada gave this lecture from Bg. 4.38 and did not mention anything about changing anything:

Madhudvisa: Verse thirty-eight: “In this world there is nothing so sublime and pure as transcendental knowledge. Such knowledge is the mature fruit of all mysticism and one who achieved this enjoys the self within himself in due course of time [Bg. 4.38].”

Prabhupada: Yes. Knowledge: “I am part and parcel of Krishna, or God. My duty as part and parcel is to serve Krishna.” Just like this finger is the part and parcel of my body. The duty of the part and parcel is to serve.
(Bhagavad-gita 4.34-39, Los Angeles, January 12, 1969)

  1. Balaram das says:

They do NOT accept Srila Prabhupada:

    Letter to: Rupanuga,
    17 February, 1970

    “My dear Rupanuga,
Our editing is to correct grammatical and spelling errors only, without interpolation of style or philosophy…”

Just see how JAS & Co have made massive changes to Srila Prabhupada’s transcendental “Bhaktivedanta Purport” chapter 8, verse 5. Apart from over 50% of the purport being changed, plus additions, Srila Prabhupada refers to the ‘transcendental abode’ of the Supreme Lord, whereas JAS says ‘transcendental nature’. This is not just ‘proof-reading’ to correct spelling or grammatical mistakes, it is (trying to) CORRECT YOUR SPIRITUAL MASTER. Where does it stop!!
No problem to give a class and expand and elaborate on the purport, but don’t change Prabhupada’s transcendental words enshrined in his original BBT published books that he sanctioned and lectured from himself.

What would the reaction be going to Srila Prabhupada while he was personally present and BG 1972 was already published and printed, and saying; ….Srila Prabhupada I think your transcendental purport needs some correction and improvement for better understanding. Please read my JAS purport and I trust you won’t mind me replacing yours with my improved version for the next printing. Oh and by the way, I have well over 5000 other changes and corrections to your books that I’m currently working on, including changes to 541 out of the 700 verses in your 1972 McMillan publication. Please don’t be alarmed, because the GBC has authorized me to do this ‘service’ for Your Divine Grace.

    Yhs, Bal.

THE ORIGINAL Bhagavad-gita As It Is

    PURPORT

In this verse the importance of Krsna consciousness is stressed. Anyone who quits his body in Krsna consciousness is at once transferred to the transcendental abode of the Supreme Lord. The word smaran (“remembering”) is important. Remembrance of Krsna is not possible for the impure soul who has not practiced Krsna consciousness in devotional service. To remember Krsna one should chant the maha-mantra, Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare, incessantly, following in the footsteps of Lord Caitanya, being more tolerant than a tree, humbler than the grass and offering all respect to others without requiring respect in return. In such a way one will be able to depart from the body successfully remembering Krsna and so attain the supreme goal.

    Read the changed and edited verson of 8.5. Bhag. as it is ;

    PURPORT

In this verse the importance of Krsna consciousness is stressed. Anyone who quits his body in Krsna consciousness is at once transferred to the transcendental nature of the Supreme Lord. The Supreme Lord is the purest of the pure. Therefore anyone who is constantly Krsna conscious is also the purest of the pure. The word smaran (“remembering”) is important. Remembrance of Krsna is not possible for the impure soul who has not practiced Krsna consciousness in devotional service. Therefore one should practice Krsna consciousness from the very beginning of life. If one wants to achieve success at the end of his life, the process of remembering Krsna is essential. Therefore one should constantly, incessantly chant the maha-mantra—Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. Lord Caitanya has advised that one be as tolerant as a tree (taror iva sahisnuna). There may be so many impediments for a person who is chanting Hare Krsna. Nonetheless, tolerating all these impediments, one should continue to chant Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare, so that at the end of one’s life one can have the full benefit of Krsna consciousness.
