Contaminated Food / Un-bonafide Ingredients
“Never eat leftover food, never eat prasāda offered to the goddess Kālī [Durgā], and do not eat anything contaminated by flesh or fish. Do not eat anything brought or touched by a śūdra (materialist) nor anything seen by a woman in her menstrual period. Do not drink water by joining your palms.” (SB 6.8.49)
“When one eats food offered by a materialistic man, one’s mind becomes contaminated, and when the mind is contaminated, one is unable to think of Kṛṣṇa properly.” (CC Antya 6.278)
“When the contaminated food was offered to Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, a very large bird appeared on the spot, picked up the plate in its beak and flew away.” (CC Madhya 9.54)
Following is but a partial list of the un-bonafide ingredients typically found in today’s processed foods. The food additives list was excerpted from “A Consumer’s Dictionary of Food Additives” by Ruth Winter, M.S. It is disturbing to note that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not require food manufacturers to clearly label packages — they are not even required to disclose that animal products are contained in foods that might appear to be vegetarian. Hidden away beneath the laboratory names of food additives, chemicals, emulsifiers, etc., are beef, horse, and even human by-products. The more you read on this subject, the more you will scrutinize the exact nature of foodstuffs you purchase for preparation and offering to Lord Krsna!
Please note that this list does not include egg, onion or garlic ingredients, all of which are considered un-bonafide, and are not offerable to Sri Krsna.

Eggs are one of the most often included items on the un-bonafide foods list that you’ll find in processed foods. Fortunately, in most cases, egg substances are clearly labeled ‘egg’.

When buying foodstuffs in or from India, be particularly careful that no adulterants have been added. Srila Prabhupada instructed that ground spices should always be avoided, for this reason. Better to buy whole masalas and grind them yourself, so you’re sure of the purity.
AVOIDING ADULTERATED FOODSTUFFS
|
||
Substance | Adulterant | Test |
Asafoetida | Resin or gum, scented and coloured | a) Pure asafoetida dissolves in water to form milk white solution.b) Pure asafoetida burns with a bright flame on being lightened. |
Bajri | Ergot seeds | When put in water the ergot seeds will float after some time |
Burra sugar | Washing soda | a) Gives effervescence with hydrochloric acid if washing soda is present.b) If dissolved in water the washing soda will turn red litmus paper blue. |
Butter & Ghee | Hydrogenated vegetable fat (vanaspati) |
Dissolve 1 teaspoon of sugar in 10cc of Hydrochloric acid, add 10cc of melted butter, ghee and shake thoroughly for 1 minute, allow to stand for 10 minutes. If vanaspati has been added to butter or ghee, the aqueous layer will be coloured red. |
Cardamon (elaichi) | The essential oil is removed and the pods are dusted with talcum powder | On rubbing, the talcum will stick to the fingers. On tasting if there is hardly any aromatic flavour, it indicates removal of essential oil. |
Chilly powder | Sawdust and colours | Sprinkle on the surface of water. Wood shavings float and added colour will stain water |
Cinnamon (dalchini) | Cassia bark which resembles cinnamon in taste and odour | Added colour comes off in water |
Cloves (lavang) | Essential oil may have been removed | If so, the cloves will be shrunken in appearance. |
Coriander (dhaniya) powder | Horse dung, powdered husk | No test. Buy whole dhaniya and powder at home. |
Cumin seeds (jeera) | May contain grass seeds coloured with charcoal dust | When rubbed, fingers will turn black. |
Edible oil | Argemone oil — highly poisonous | A reddish brown precipitate is formed when hydrochloric acid is gently mixed with ferric chloride solution |
Gur | Metanil yellow | Hydrochloric acid added to the gur solution will turn it magenta in colour |
Hing | a) Artificial Aroma b) Coloured resin or glue |
Pure hing dissolves in water, producing a milky white emulsion. If ignited, pure hing burns with a bright flame. |
Ice cream | a) Saccharine b) Dulien Sweet c) Cyclamate |
The ice cream will have a slightly bitter taste when saccharine is added |
Milk | Water | Measure the specific gravity with a lactometer, which is available with any chemist. The normal milk values will fall between 1.030 and 1.034. Milkmen are wise to the test and may detect the milk to give the right reading. So this is only a rough test |
Rawa | Iron fillings to add weight | Pass a magnet through the rawa. Iron filling will cling to it. |
Saffron | Scented and coloured hair of maize | The pieces of pure saffron do not break easily whereas those of the maize hair break easily. Pure saffron dissolves in water whereas spurious saffron will remain undissolved and look like small threads if maize hair are present |
Sago | a) Sand b) Talcum |
If sand is mixed, it will be easily detected while eating the preparation of sago |
Shahjira | a) Wild grass b) Charcoal or brick powd |
Rub a little quantity of Shahjira between the palms. Palms will blacken, if charcoal is present. |
Turmeric | Metanil yellow colouring | When concentrated hydrochloric acid is added to a solution of turmeric powder it turns magenta, if only turmeric is present the colour disappears, with metanil yellow the colour persists |
Prabhupada:“The thing is they supply more spices, and especially that mustard. This is not good. This is prohibited.
Tamala Krsna: It should be mild, prasadam.
Prabhupada: Practically no spices. Simply little cumin. And this turmeric. Turmeric you get from India, whole turmeric. This powdered turmeric is very, very bad.
Tamala Krsna: Unhealthy.
Harikesa: They put sawdust in it.
Prabhupada: That’s all.
Tamala Krsna: It’s very unhealthy.
Prabhupada: It is very cheating. Any powdered spice is not good.
Harikesa: Asafoetida also.
Prabhupada: Everything. As soon as it is powder, they will mix with all rubbish things. And it is very easy to cheat you. You are susceptible for being cheated. So they take advantage and cheat you. So best thing is to import spices from India whole and either get it powdered or during time of cooking you make them paste. That is first class. (Srila Prabhupada Morning Walk, 07-01-75, Denver)
The Buddhists Offer Untouchable Food to Lord Caitanya
“When the contaminated food was offered to Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, a very large bird
appeared on the spot, picked up the plate in its beak and flew away.” (CC Madhya 9.54)
When the contaminated food was offered to Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, a very large bird appeared on the spot, picked up the plate in its beak and flew away. Indeed, the untouchable food fell upon the Buddhists, and the large bird dropped the plate on the head of the chief Buddhist teacher. When it fell on his head, it made a big sound. The plate was made of metal, and when its edge hit the head of the teacher, it cut him, and the teacher immediately fell to the ground unconscious. When the teacher fell unconscious, his Buddhist disciples cried aloud and ran to the lotus feet of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu for shelter. They all prayed to Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, addressing Him as the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself and saying, “Sir, please excuse our offense. Please have mercy upon us and bring our spiritual master back to life.” The Lord then replied to the Buddhist disciples, “You should all chant the names of Krsna and Hari very loudly near the ear of your spiritual master. “By this method your spiritual master will regain his consciousness.” Following Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s advice, all the Buddhist disciples began to chant the holy name of Krsna congregationally. When all the disciples chanted the holy names Krsna, Rama and Hari, the Buddhist teacher regained consciousness and immediately began to chant the holy name of Lord Hari. ( more here )
Even though over 90% of citizens want food labeling, still this food contamination is going on because the FDA (and its affiliates in many countries in the world) are represented by Multinational Corporations, Chemical and Biotech Corporations and Drug Corporations who ‘pull the strings’ of a corrupt political system. This is why Srila Prabhupada referred to this as DEMON-CRAZY (democracy). The myth that the voting public determine Government Policy is one of the biggest ‘illusions’ ever perpetrated on humanity.
Ancient Greece had a SLAVE population which was at least 7 times bigger than the general population of ”free citizens”. The cronies who make up the FDA are mostly ex-executives of Monsanto, and other Agri-chemical, Biotech and large Drug Corporations, because if you ‘rubber stamp’ and ‘approve’ rubbish, contaminated food, people will GET SICK and BUY MORE DRUGS (much to the pleasure, and profit of the drug corporations). If that is not a conflict of interest, I don’t know what is. This is why they are banning the Confederate Flag because if your own flag represents SLAVERY then what you need is a SMOKESCREEN!
Uncle Toms Cabin (The White House) is shaping up to be the next residence of Donald Trump (as if things couldn’t get any worse!) But rather than turn my shed into a ‘lab’ to test all of the food I buy better to change this corrupt system……wasn’t this Srila Prabhupada’s plan? The Greeks didn’t want the ‘Austerity Measures’ but THEY GOT THEM ANYWAY cause Democracy is a lie, a big fat lie perpetrated by demons!
In Australia the ‘Mining Boom’ is over so now they are spending billions on infrastructure to facilitate ‘cattle export’ for slaughter in China and Indonesia. If this is not ‘the beginning of the end’ I don’t know what is. If they are allowed to contaminate the worlds bio-diversity with GMO crops then your ”Testing” of foodstuffs will be a complete waste of time, as you cannot reverse the process.
