Astrological Combination for WW3 this Summer?

Most devotees are aware that Srila Prabhupada predicted that the materialistic civilization would be destroyed by atomic weapons and that he told us that:

Prabhupada: Preaching will be very nice after the war when both of them, especially Russia, will befinished…. ( S.P. Morning Walk Conversation (World War III) April 4, 1975, Mayapur)

At this point in history, it doesn’t take a great prophet or astrologer to see that the world situation is like a powder keg and a single spark could set off a chain reaction resulting in nuclear war. Srila Prabhupada tells us that this war is inevitable, and the question is really just “who will be able to drop the bomb first”:

Yogesvara: Is such an atomic war foretold in Bhag…
Prabhupada: Yes. Next war means atomic war. All these rascals will be killed automatically. I will kill you, you’ll kill me. That’s all. The atomic bombs. They are meant for creating disaster, that’s all. What else they can do? And now everyone is having atomic weapon, just like India has now got. That means they are preparing, by nature’s course they are preparing for war, and “I put my atomic bomb on your head, and you put on my head. You die, I die, that’s all.” They simply die. Now what was the result of the disastrous war twice? The whole European nations ruined. They are not no more rich. I saw in Paris, in Germany. They are not as rich as the Americans. Because American inland, there was no such big war, so their opulence is existing, but on account of these two wars, British completely finished. Yes. British completely. It is now… Hitler wanted that “I shall again make these English people a fisherman’s island. They have to take their business to fishing only.” (laughter) That was Hitler’s declaration.
Now the nuclear war means it will not continue very long. The first party who will drop the bomb on the other party, he will be victorious, and immediately the war will stop. They are simply arranging how to drop the atom bomb first. So one who will be able to drop the bomb first, he will be victorious. It doesn’t require long time. Just like in Japan, as soon as the Americans dropped the atom bomb in Hiroshima, immediately they surrendered. This will be the result. Now the question is who will be able to drop the bomb first. A number of astrologers with good track records are predicting WW3 this summer. I happened to be listening to an astrologer I respect, Joni Patri, and got chills when she mentioned a specific date to watch regarding World War: July 27. That particular date got my attention because my godbrother, Padmagarbha Prabhu, had told me about a dream/vision that he had regarding the following day, July 28th:

While in Los Angeles [New Dvarka], in January of 1999 I dreamed/had a vision of a devotee named Loitaksha dasa [I had heard of this prabhu, but had never personally met him] appearing to me, and telling me the date of WW3, unfortunately I didn’t get up to write it down, and in the morning I was preoccupied getting ready to go to work. However, after returning to the New Dvarka community [my apartment was across the street from the Temple] a devotee approached me and asked me if I had heard of Loitaksha dasa’s passing, last night in Vrndavan. Well, as I said, this prabhu had appeared to me [turns out he had passed away just shortly prior to my dream] and he had said to me, “Hare Krsna, my name is Loitaksa, and I am here to give you the date for WW3.” Then he gave the date!

So when this devotee [Ganga Narayana dasa] told me of Loitaksa’s passing I frantically tried to remember the dream, or rather the date he had given to me, but all I could remember was the day, I had forgotten the year. And that day was, “July 28”.

A couple of days ago I listened to Joni Patri’s 2018 Astrological forecast (listen at 10 min, 40s), and in this “forecast” she mentions that the Full Moon on July 27 could trigger a “major war”. And in her previous video, her reading for January she briefly suggests the possibility of WW3 happening in 2018.

Also, an unknown [to me] astrologer warns in his reading of the high possibility of WW3 happening in the summer of 2018.

Well, I realize that my dream/vision could possibly have been but a product of my mind, and also these two astrologers are possibly [hopefully] mistaken. Nevertheless, in light of Srila Prabhupada telling us that WW3 would happen during the life-times of His [then] disciples I thought I should present all this information for you all to individually consider. — padmagarbha.das@gmail.com

When I saw Joni Patri’s prediction, I opened my astrology program and looked, once again at July 28th 2018, and it does, indeed, look ominous. We have a Mars and Ketu conjunction that gives the marital energy of Mars an element of belligerence, confidence and unpredictablilty. Mercury and the Moon are in opposition, joined by the malefics, the Sun, Mars, Ketu and Rahu, meaning that the subconscious mind (Moon), and the intelligence (Mercury) are bewildered by malefic influences. Additionally, only the day before, on July 27, there is a lunar eclipse, further heightening this “madness”.

I asked my (online) friend, Abhaya Mudra Prabhu, who is an astrologer whom I respect about her opinion of the conditions on July 28th and she replied:

As far as the July 28th is concerned it shows a madness yoga (Moon and Mercuy in opposition joined by malefics). But usually when a war starts there should be some relationship between Saturn and Jupiter (either conjunction or opposition)

This will happen soon in Sagittarius. I wrote about that in our Astrological Newsletter. Jupiter and Saturn will dance in and out of Sagittarius three times. This is unheard of. Around that time also another yuga yoga takes place, so something dramatic will happen. We do not have much time to prepare.Devotees are not very serious about it. — abhaya_mudra2003@yahoo.com

I am very amateur with astrology, but common sense does indicate that major wars would require the influence of the slow planets, Jupiter and Saturn because wars require major preparation. Jupiter the planet of justice and righteousness influenced by Saturn’s slow, baleful, destructive energy in a conjunction or opposition lasting about a year gives enough time to develop strategies and to equip and train an army for a major campaign. However, Srila Prabhupada tells us that this war, WW3, fought with atomic weapons will last a very short time, as he says, “…it will not continue very long.” In fact, the destructive event of unleashing nuclear missiles could be the result of a single person, making a major decision based on madness. Compared to any historical war that requires planning, protocols, equipment, training and strategy, this big war could occur by one man simply pushing a button, meaning this July 28th is a very possible day for the bombs to fall.

Many Devotees would Elect to be Right under the Bomb

In a world where most devotees have arranged to have comfortable lives and satisfying service, it is socially awkward to mention the possibility that the status quo might be shattered by an inevitable war. It is easy to forget that Srila Prabhupada brought up the subject of WW3 many times and that he stressed that establishing varnashrama in a simple living, high thinking lifestyle was the second half of his mission. I’ve found that if I ignore social cues to keep my mouth (or keyboard) shut and press someone about what he/she plans to do when it becomes (more) obvious that WW3 is imminent, many times, I get the response, “I’ll just chant Hare Krsna and let the bomb fall on me.”

Really? Devotees suicidal? We do have some precedent that many devotees have become despondent. For instance I recently heard of a devotee in L.A. committing suicide by cop: he walked into a police station waving a gun and declaring that he was going to shoot. Another devotee, a devotee who gave his life to distributing books, also committed suicide. Seeing all the signs that WW3 is almost here and doing nothing to find a place to shelter your body is essentially committing suicide. We have been given this knowledge and opportunity to help Lord Caitanya’s Sankirtan movement and making a decision to just stay in a dangerous situation, even though you are warned is probably, in most cases, an offence to our spiritual master. Lord Caitanya needs soldiers and if you justify staying put and not finding shelter by quoting that Srila Prabhupada said that all we have to do when the war comes is to chant Hare Krsna, please keep in mind that all you are doing is justifying your decision. In the Krsna Book Srila Prabhpada writes:

“When there is imminent danger, an intelligent person should try to avoid the dangerous position as far as possible. But if, in spite of endeavoring by all intelligence, one fails to avoid the dangerous position, there is no fault on his part. One should try his best to execute his duties, but if the attempt fails, he is not at fault.” (Krsna Book, Chapter 1)

While it is true that Srila Prabhupada said that we don’t need to do anything other than chant Krsna’s name when the war occurs, he also gave very specific instructions regarding the second half of his mission. Now, it is 40 years later, and almost no one has taken up those instructions. Had ISKCON had faith in the instructions and if the leaders would have immersed themselves in a simple living, high thinking lifestyle, we’d have a myriad of self sufficient farms and would indeed have to make no other preparations for war or anything else.

Billy and I have been gradually immersing ourselves in a simple living lifestyle for a decade and we’ve had some amazing realizations. Although we are still far from being in the mode of goodness, the glimpses we’ve had of where this lifestyle will take us, particularly as a devotee community develops have given us great hopes for the future. A future of living a lifestyle where the community produces all its necessities is not the apocalyptic vision that Hollywood loves to present: the lifestyle is actually nourishing to the soul, healthy for the body and is an environment that can put the mind at ease.

My intention was to have the bulk of this article be a hypothetical snapshot of several days in a SLHT lifestyle several years after WW3, one day for each season of the year. Unfortunately the introduction to the snapshot is so long that I’ll just include a hypothetical day about 3 years after the collapse of the materialistic civilization. It is written in the first person and set in our valley, Glenoma, a land of abundance.

July 28th 202#, three years after WW3

EEERR, EERRR, ERRERROOOO!!! That’s how we wake up every morning, just in time for the Brahma muhurta. Chickaroo, Billy’s bantam rooster, is perched outside our bedroom window, and he makes sure that we’re wide awake. Electricity has been spotty since the war. There is a hydro electric plant only about 2 miles away, but if any of the lines are damaged or if there is a worn part in the generators, it can be off for months. By this time we’ve adjusted to making do with the amount of light available from an oil lamp (we grow rape seeds for burning oil and camelina for cooking, pressing them with a hand cranked oil press), so Billy lights a lamp while I grope around for my clothes and head for the bathroom. We have gravity fed water that we pump into a tank on a tower in the goshalla. The hot water line is solar heated, but this time of day that means lukewarm, so we take quick showers and get dressed. 20 minutes later, with fresh tilak and clean clothes, we’re ready for the 1/2 mile walk to the temple.

There are 9 members of our group, the Giriraja Group, and this morning, the anniversary of 7-28, three years since the bombs fell, everyone is going for the morning program. Everyone except Rudra, because we still leave one person on the farm at all times who can ring the big brass bell if any problems arise. It has been a year since we’ve had any emergencies, but we’re still being cautious.

Rudra Prabhu, our mechanic, farrier and metal worker, has already harnessed Dee, my horse, to the little buggy so that the two older devotees, Pavana and Jivananda Prabhus, who are having health problems can come. It is a comfortably warm morning with no dew and the crickets are singing. It is a waning moon and we can easily see our way as Dee clops down the road, the other devotees softly chanting and following the cart. I’m just finishing my second round as we make the hard right turn into the temple driveway. We see lamps flickering in the temple window and devotees milling around outside, waiting for mangal arotik to begin.

I’ve brought a vase of flowers, fragrant oriental lilies, zinnias and snapdragons with sprays of rosemary and bee balm. They were covered during our walk, but when I remove the bag and place them in front of the Panca Tattva, the original Deities of ISKCON, the fragrance bursts out and fills the room. Their Lordships have received a fresh marigold garland this morning, compliments of the Govinda group of devotees. Today Srivasa Thakur Prabhu leads kirtan and soon we’re all immersed in the Samsara Prayers and the Maha Mantra, singing and dancing. After Tulasi arotik, I tap Bhaktin Cindy (Rudra’s wife) on the shoulder and she gets up to accompany me back to our farm to milk the cows.

There is a very light breeze and light is just beginning to crack above Dog Mountain. I try to concentrate on the sound of Krsna’s name with love, calling to Him and trying to feel His presence. I envision Srila Prabhupada, as he appears in the picture on my altar, in deep ecstasy and try to humbly cultivate his mood of service and devotion. Gradually I feel a wave of chills flowing over my limbs, back and chest as I begin to feel Krsna’s presence in the sound vibrations.

Suddenly the mood is broken. Rudra Prabhu’s lanky form emerges from the darkness and he’s breathing like he’s been running. “It’s Bhakti,” he says. “Something is wrong. She’s shaking and won’t eat.” We all hurry as fast as we can back to the farm.

Bhakti, our young Ayrshire/Holstein cow gave birth to a little bull calf, Sikha, only two days earlier and I mentally kicked myself for not checking on her before leaving this morning. She is still standing, but her legs are shaking and she is clearly anxious and in distress. I’m fairly sure that the level of calcium in her blood has plummeted due to her milk coming in and that she has a common condition known as hypocalcemia or milk fever. This condition can kill her within hours if left untreated. I ask the devotees to try to keep her up while I run into the house to whip up a batch of calcium, magnesium and boron. It is still dark, but I’ve kept the supplies handy and have been supplementing Bhakti’s grain rations, but apparently not adequately. I have a large bag of calcium propionate that was packaged to be used as a de-icer for sidewalks and also have a stash of calcium sulfate and Epsom salts (magnesium). I mix the calcium powders, Epsom salts and a pinch of boron (Twenty Mule Team) with some honey and oil to mitigate the caustic effect of the calcium propionate, pour it into a huge syringe and replace the plunger. When I get back out to the barn, Bhakti is down, but still conscious with her head at half mast. I grab her nostrils with my left hand to keep her head steady and force the syringe to the back of her throat and push the plunger. Thankfully she swallows and we let out a collective sigh of relief. Now we just have to wait and see if it works.

Three hours later the cows are milked and Rudra has gone on the delivery run with Dee and the cart to distribute most of the milk. Bhakti is fine: she was up and eating within a half hour and an hour later, nursing little Sikha, I judged her well enough to be milked. We’re still not using her milk, however to the delight of our dogs, and other dogs in the neighborhood.

Our group, the Giriraja group, has taken up the service of preparing the soup for the midday meal, so Bhaktin Cindy and Kavi Prabhu (my best friend) are busy firing up the wood stove in the summer kitchen (formerly a 12′ x 24′ pole barn/RV shed). It will take us most of three hours to make the 10 gallons of soup because we have to pick the veggies, prep them and get the whole pot to boiling, using a wood stove. We use a quantity of last night’s milk, sans most of the cream (which is culturing as part of the butter-making process), to make curd, curdling it with whey from yogurt that was hanging in cheese cloth in the spring house (formerly the well house, now partially excavated to the water table to keep dairy products cold). The whey from the curd becomes the soup base along with the addition of rosemary and sorrel from the garden. It starts to get quite hot in the open summer kitchen, but a mild breeze keeps it bearable.

We start a pot on the back burner of a “seconds” soup for the dogs, adding potato and other vegetable peelings, substandard grains, whey and milk that has gone sour. It will be floated in the spring house when it is cool and fed to the dogs along with eggs from the chickens over the next few days.

I chop the pressed curd into cubes and fry the pieces in camelina oil with some salt. It takes several batches before all the cubes are nicely browned, and I’m sweating from the heat, but they will be a welcome addition to the soup that I know Their Lordships will appreciate. Kavi adds the finishing touches to the soup including a rationed scoop of salt. Lately salt has become a serious concern in our valley and there has been discussions about sending a convoy to the ocean to dehydrate sea water for sea salt. If the animals and people don’t get enough salt, we’ll start to have health problems. At this point we’re still using our pre-war stash, but it is being rationed and we will have to get some more within a year.

We have a comfortable picnic area outside our gate with tables, chairs and hitching posts for horses. Soon devotees and locals begin to arrive. A devotee from the Panca Tattva group comes pulling a hand cart laden with a huge salad that is slathered with a thick yogurt/mustard/honey dressing and a pile of chapatis contributed by the Govinda group. Rudra loads up the hand cart with enough prasadam to feed the devotees who are building the varnashrama village, about a half mile in the other direction at the site of the former Glenoma school. It is being built using all local materials (mostly timber-frame/cordwood constrution) and recycled windows. Billy is there with the crew, contributing his lifetime of building experience and though they’re working hard, they are having a great time with a lot of comeraderie and pride in their accomplishments. They’ll take their prasadam on site, followed by a short siesta and resume work when the sun is a little less intense.

Other devotees arrive for prasadam and begin a spontaneous kirtan. Many locals also arrive and some of them participate in the kirtan, appreciating the mood. We ask that most people who come for the lunch program reciprocate in some way and we provide meal vouchers in exchange for work or goods. Everyone seems happy with the meal and soon begin to drift away. Rudra returns with the hand cart and goes to saddle Lucky to ride to the pass to feed the guards. The Greater Community of Glenoma has instituted a program in which people with martial tendencies and abilities take turns in guarding the western and eastern entrances to the valley. We are quite close to the east entrance/pass, so we provide meals to the guards. It is only about a 2 mile ride to the guard camp, but the soup and salad containers are unwieldy and it is a fairly hot day, in the 80s, so Rudra and Lucky will go at mostly a walking pace, taking the better part of an hour to get there.

I’m tired and sweaty, so I elect to take a quick nap before finishing my rounds. When I get up, it is still quite hot, so I decide to chant my rounds in the forest behind the arena and am soon in the sun-speckled shade of the tall trees chanting on a well worn path through the ferns and underbrush. Soon I’m immersed in the Holy Name and feeling the “immediate effect” that Srila Prabhupada promised.

Twice a week, in the afternoon, Kavi, a former nurse practitioner, and I hold health clinics for devotees and locals throughout the valley. Kavi does the diagnoses and most of the treatments and I provide herbal medicines and sometimes perform some more subtle treatments, including treatments for PTSD, a very common ailment. When I return from chanting my rounds, we have a full waiting room (one of the bays in the pole barn, converted into a clinic).

Kavi is already there and the first patient is clearly suffering from gallstones, so she refers the patient to me because I can provide the ingredients and instructions for passing the gallstones. The patient, Mary, who lives more than 5 miles away has bicycled here along with her daughter. I explain how she needs to basically fast all day tomorrow, although eating some steamed veggies before 2:00 is OK. She needs to drink apple juice, consuming a least a half gallon during the day. The transparent apples are already ripe, so she can get some from our neighbor across the street. Mary says that they have a cider press, so they will be able to make the juice that evening. I send her on her way with cider vinegar, a cup of camelina oil, epsom salt and written instructions and assure her that after a possibly uncomfortable experience, she’ll soon feel better than ever. Mary pays us with a voucher from her husband, good for 3 hours of manual work or 3 gallons of blackberries. I ask her to return the containers for the oil and vinegar when she’s done and to come back next week.

The other patients are fairly routine: removing stitches from an injury treated 10 days earlier, a case of shingles (given sympathy and an immune-boosting tincture), a chronic case of cancer that I treat by giving the patient hypnotherapy to enable him to perform urine therapy as well as giving him some hemp oil, and a child who is apparently suffering from a calcium deficiency that we give vouchers for daily milk. The family of the child have a reputation for laziness and although we do ask that they reciprocate by helping us on the farm for a few hours, we have little confidence that they’ll ever show up to help. They live about a mile away, so we ask that the 4 year old child accompany his older sister to the farm daily to get his milk. We need to see that the child actually is the one consuming the milk, in this case. We’ll also make sure the sister gets milk.

Just as we are about to close the clinic, a neighbor comes riding in on a lathered horse. “There’s been an accident on the hill,” he says, without getting off his horse. “Up on Norma’s Hill, where we’re cutting firewood, a tree came down on Jeff. He might be dead.”

My daughter is in the covered arena working with a team of young oxen, and I call to her and ask which horses we can take. Kavi gathers her kit while Rukmini (my daughter) and I quickly saddle three horses. We swing up within minutes and are off trotting up the hill. Balaram (from our group) has taken a team of oxen (Torus and Shyam) up the hill to cut firewood along with 3 local men. One of them, Jeff, somehow got stuck under a tree as it was falling. When we arrive, we see that the men had been able to lever the tree off of Jeff, but he is unconscious and barely breathing. As Kavi examines him, he has a series of convulsions and then appears to leave his body out his mouth. The tree cutters mill about looking at their feet and Kavi and I chant quietly for a little while, realizing that Jeff had done devotional service and had taken prasadam. I wonder how his wife and children will take the news: he wasn’t the ideal husband or father and Bev had left him before the war, only coming back because of circumstances. I expect that she’ll be both sad and relieved once she recovers from the shock. Her family will be fine because they are hard workers and are liked and respected by the community.

Rukmini helps hook the team to the wagon and our group slowly walks back to our farm while we discuss who should go to inform Bev of the tragedy.

As the sun slowly sinks towards the horizon, our group gathers in the house for evening prasadam (hot honeyed milk with baked potatoes slathered with a butter/cream cheese/cilantro sauce) and we discuss the day’s events, mend clothes,spin wool and read from Srila Prabhupada’s books in the dwindling light.

Conclusion

Yesterday I got a call from a godsister in Hawaii who recently had the unsettling experience of being informed that a missile was about to hit. She said that she grabbed her Deity and packed Him in a case and then really contemplated where she was at spiritually. Of course we all know now that a missile didn’t hit Hawaii, but for that half hour or so, my godsister experienced what it is like when things suddenly and radically change. After talking to her, I did a mental exercise and tried to imagine what it would be like if I received news that nuclear bombs would be falling soon.

Psychologists describe a phenomenon called a “normalcy bias” in which people tend to think that things will always continue as they have in the past. Because Srila Prabhupada told us that the materialistic civilization would be destroyed, I try not to be overly influenced by this illusory phenomenon of the normalcy bias. Additionally I try to be aware of the clues that Krsna is providing in the form of astrology and mystical dreams to be in as strong a situation as possible to be able to be effective in promoting Krsna consciousness when the new and improved preaching field manifests.

Billy and I live in a magical valley with perfect soil, plentiful water and a mild climate. It is easy to defend and large enough to support a population of 50,000 or more although only about 900 people live here at present. We would like to extend an invitation to any and all Prabhupada followers to join our fledgling community either in spirit or in person. We urge devotees to analyze their individual situations and if they are not currently producing most of their necessities, we suggest that they consider at least establishing a relationship with a project that has the knowledge and skills to implement the easy, joyous lifestyle our spiritual master prescribed for us. If circumstances prevent you from making drastic changes to your lifestyle, at least establishing a relationship with a self reliant project before the crisis makes sense.

Prabhupada: Wasteful, yes. Therefore I say they have no brain. All, they are rascals. Rascal leaders. A little labor in agriculture will be sufficient to produce the family’s food stock for the whole year. You can stock. You work only three months, and you get sufficient food for your whole family. And nine months, you chant Hare Krishna. But these rascals will not do that. They will work hard like ass simply for eating. Nunam pramattah kurute vikarma yad indriya-pritaya aprnoti.
