Bangalore: A cultural and religious tourism spot, Iskcon’s Krishna Lila Park will soon ornate the Garden City. The park’s bhoomipuja was held on Sunday at the Vaikunta Hill on Kanakapura Road.
Several prominent religious leaders lauded the effort on the occasion. Sri Sri Ravishankar of Art of Living, Balagangadharanatha Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Mutt, Sugunendra Tirtha Sripada of Puttige Mutt in Udupi, Swami Harshananda, president of Sri Ramakrishna Ashram, and several other swamijis, along with ministers and MLAs, were present.
According to Iskcon, the objective of the Rs 350 crore project is to present, preserve and promote the cultural heritage of India, as described in Indian classics.
Elaborating on the project site, Iskcon vice-president Chanchalapathidasa said: “We want to impress on the young generation the glorious pastimes of our own legendary heroes. Today, our children’s minds are obsessed with Superman, Spiderman and such characters from the West. This is what several people are calling as cultural imperialism. While we want good things from everywhere, we want to introduce the great characters of our Indian epics.”
According to Iskcon representatives, the park will be a family edutainment centre that will expose visitors to different episodes of Mahabharatha, Bhagavatha and Ramayana, through technology-assisted experiential story-telling.
WHAT’S IN STORE
The park will have a skyscraper known as the Krishna Heritage Tower with a fusion architecture rising upto 360 feet from the ground level. There will also be a Puri Jagannath Mandir and Radha Krishna Mandir at the ground level. Further, there’ll be a sky temple located at its top-most level (500 ft).
Other attractions include Srila Prabhupada shrine and expo, theme parks based on the episodes of Krishna Lila, something on the lines of Disneyland where visitors get to go on a boat. There will also be musical fountains, aqua screen shows, water slide and kids gaming area.
The Rs 350-crore project spread across 42-and-a-half acre of land is being undertaken by India Heritage Academy and Iskcon Charities. The trusts plan to develop an integrated township by raising funds, apart from donations. A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) is also being set up for the project.
